Welcome to San Diego's R/C Model Boat Club

Sail and Power Divisions

San Diego Argonaut skippers have brought proud recognition to the club in the form of many  National Championships. The four most popular sail division classes (based on hull type and size) are national in scope and include the Santa Barbara, Soling 50, Soling One Meter, One Design One Meter (ODOM), and International One Meter (IOM).

Each year, the Sail Division hosts regattas for the  most popular classes in our area. Most regattas are two day affairs with skippers coming to San Diego from around the country. Competition is at a highly competitive level as the boats sail realistic courses just like the big boats.

Club Point regattas are held each month and skippers race to see who the top skipper is at the end of the year.

Sail Division members welcome your questions and may even give you a turn at the tiller !

Power Division

Members of the Power Division prefer the smell of nitro in the morning !

Most of the boats are powered by 2 stroke internal combustion engines that run on a mixture of methanol , castor oil and nitomethane. Radio control servos operate the rudder for steering and the throttle. The boats we run are  made of various material, typically, fiberglass or wood. Speeds of some of the boats can reach 70 MPH !

Various types of boat hulls and engine size determine the racing classes. Look for the 1/8 scale Unlimited Hydroplanes modeled after the big boats that run across the Bay.

Monthly Club Point races are held throughout the year along with several NAMBA District Races that bring boaters from  as far away as the Seattle  and Arizona areas.

The Club members welcome new boaters at the races and encourage you to talk to the racers at the pond !  You may get a turn at the throttle !

The  use of r/c cars in the pond area is discouraged. Such use can lead to radio interference which may cause a boat to crash or go out of control.
