2006 Season

We had a great year in 2005! Thanks to everyone for their support and participation in the Club's activities.

2006 begins our 47th year as the San Diego Argonauts - be sure to attend as many events as possible!

If you have not yet renewed your Argonauts membership for 2006, please do so as soon as possible by contacting our Secretary, Ernie Mortensen.

Race day in January turned out to be a great day for racing with a good number of drivers! We had 17 boats in 5 classes, including an addition to the A Mono field - Team Froyd! Welcome Team Froyd - we're happy to have you aboard! There were a couple of our veteran racers who had new boats to run this month as well.

In A Mono, John G. won 2 out of the 4 heats, and our new racers, Team Froyd won a heat as well! It is no small feat to beat 4 other hungry boats on your first day of racing! Well done and congratulations! The black and yellow boat of Chuck M. took the first heat. John G. won the class, and all boats ran well. Joe C. Had his boat looking good by the end of the day. There was some good racing in this class.

Sport 21 had 4 entries this month. A couple of boats had some trouble, and weren't able to run, but Al W. and Jay D. put on a show. In deck-to-deck racing for most of the day, Al ended up winning 3 heats, and Jay took the last one. Those guys would have kept racing all day because they were having a blast! Al took the win for the day in this class. Team FAST has made some changes that will make it even more of a force very soon. Joe C. also has a real fast boat that will no doubt be a contender as soon as he gets it "dialed in". Come down to the pond for the next month of "Super Fun Sport .21" !

In the "ALL FUN" B Mono Class, Joe C. and Lenny B. raced it out. Lenny edged out a win that came down to the last heat. If he hadn't won, the class would have been tied. Jay D. has a shiny red new B Mono which didn't get going this race, but could be in the mix next time.

For the "Run What You Brung" class, John G. had a good-lookin' new cat boat to add to the class. It looks like he's been working hard over the winter months. If the bursts of speed we saw from this boat are any indication, this one has the markings of a winner! Lenny B. ran his scale hydro and Frank C. ran his cats. Frank stayed in the hunt until the last heat of the day, which ended with a hard collision. Let's join together in wishing these guys the best of luck in getting those boats healthy again!

The guys in the Sport 40 class had a rough day. Only the second heat finished with both boats running. It's rumored that there will be a new addition to this class in the next few months, so get those boats running!
